Reporting to the Manager of Platform Engineering, the candidatewill work with the Cloud Architect to develop, build and maintain various Cloud-based environments based on standardized and best-of-breed solution architectures. They will be responsible for the daily operations and support of all Cloud-based environments.

Additional duties may include:

Assist with the building and operation of Cloud-based infrastructure Bridge gaps between on-prem Corporate networks and Cloud-based networks, extending the Cloud-networks into the Data Centre infrastructure Monitor performance, availability and security, and audit existing designs Support all Cloud operations across Telesat including connectivity and integration to various Software-As-A-Service (SaaS) vendors

Candidates must live in the Ottawa area or be willing to relocate to Ottawa. Relocation assistance will be provided to those who qualify.

Candidates must be willing to be onsite in office three (3) days per week.

Main Responsibilities

  • Assist the Platform Engineering team in daily Cloud operations for the Telesat MS Azure instances and Google GCP as required.

  • Responsible for the management and maintenance of Telesat Cloud Infrastructure including both Corporate, Lightspeed and other tenants as necessary.

  • Assist other Cloud Engineers, engineering or IT staff in the design and deployment of services on Cloud platforms.

  • Ensure data backups, application backups and data resilience on the Cloud platforms.

  • Assist in the support and operation of Linux-based assets within the Cloud environment as well as tools and scripts to support operations and management.

  • Development of metrics and monitoring to assist with SRE (Support) and Operations functions

Education & Experience Required

  • Bachelor's degree in technical or engineering field or equivalent practical experience.

  • At least 3 years of relevant industry experience with the deployment, management and automation of Cloud-based resources.

  • At least 2 years experience in the operation of Cloud and data centre environments.

Specialized Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience in the administration of computer systems such as systems administrator in an operations role.

  • Strong understanding and hands on experience in operations and management of public cloud-computing environments like GCP, AWS and Azure.

  • Strong understanding and hands on experience in the administration of Linux.

  • Understanding of DevOps concepts and toolchains.

  • Familiarity with SRE concepts considered an asset.

  • Understanding of microservices and containerization and container orchestration (Kubernetes).

  • Certifications in Azure and/or AWS, GCP would be an asset.

Decision Making & Supervision

  • In this role, the incumbent will have some influence on the use and standardization of the Cloud environments.

  • The incumbent will rely on their experience to make decisions on the operations, customization and tuning of environments and services.

Working Conditions

  • Generally comfortable working conditions with lifting and onsite installations.

  • Moderate visual concentration in use of video display terminal.

  • The successful candidate must be able to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods program (CGP).
