AutoZone, Inc. Senior Data Analyst (Merchandising) in Memphis, Tennessee

SUMMARY:

AutoZone's Senior Merchandising Analysts are internal consultants for the merchandising department. They provide the data for the line review process. They track promotions, contest, and team objectives. They monitor all of the team categories making sure objectives are met. They provide a statistical and financial foundation for merchandising decisions. They are responsible for programming in SAS to automate team reporting. Senior Analysts are viewed as a department resource by senior management, as well as an expert for understanding and application of AutoZone data. Must advise and mentor merchandising analysts. Must be open to change, support new initiatives and take the role of innovative leader developing department level solutions and ideas. Must be the team resource for market segmentation, positioning, and customer target data.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• If on a team, participating in all team activities and decisions

• Solving problems through data analysis and reporting

• Consulting with product managers on business decisions to provide a statistical and financial foundation Analyzing proposed promotions and tests to determine feasibility and profitability

• Programming in the SAS language to retrieve information and automate reporting

• Performing analysis of SMS tables, flexogram tables, warranty databases, store/item/retail tables, shipment tables, and warehouse/item/store tables. Measuring progress verses the operating plan to ensure the team meets company expectations

• Takes ownership of category strategy, informed by thoughtful analysis and strong collaboration with cross-functional partners

• Develops and improves analytic and technical tools utilized by our team and others, including those available through our team website

• Works closely with Category Managers to ensure category milestones are being met

• Works to understand business requirements from Merchandising, Store Operations, Supply Chain, IT, Legal and Finance

• Develops recommendations for category initiatives, including tests, product mix, clustering and assortment changes

• Manage 2-3 analysts

REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor's degree (BA, BS) or equivalent.

• Three to five years experience in Business Administrations, Statistics, Engineering or comparable field.

• Experience in Business Administration, Statistics, Finance, Category Management, Data Analytics, Computer Science, or comparable field

• Ability to derive actionable insights from large and diverse data

• Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to effectively distil complex technical and analytic information for a lay audience

• Self-motivated, responsible, conscientious, and detail oriented

• Proficient in SQL

Preferred:

• Experience with SAS, Google BigQuery, R, or Python

• Experience with data visualization and BI reporting tools (Python, Looker, Tableau, MicroStrategy, etc…)
