Location: AUSTIN, TX

As our Principal AWS Cloud Engineer , you will be the master of all things AWS, utilizing your skills to create and execute upon a governance strategy which will allow us to scale ever larger as a tech company. You’ll be engaged with everyone from our most senior leadership to individual developers struggling with an intricate AWS problem, and you’ll carry a gravitas nearly unmatched across the entire tech org as you do so.

What you’ll do:

  • Operate with a high degree of autonomy, prioritizing and executing upon their own roadmap against clear objectives and metric goals.

  • Define and execute an overall multi-account governance strategy appropriate for a tech company with hundreds of engineers and 100+ million visits/month (top 50 in US!).

  • Design and implement IAM policies sufficient to secure a sprawling infrastructure.

  • Establish cost guardrails and transparency mechanisms so that teams are better able to control and see their contributions to our spend.

  • Create and own a change management program that allows teams to use AWS within safe confines where they’re unable to harm themselves or the overall infrastructure.

  • Be the go-to subject matter expert for all things AWS on our team, whether that be on infrastructure-as-code, scaling strategies, incident response, multi-zone availability intricacies, and so many other things within the realm of how to best leverage our investment in AWS.

How we work:

We balance creativity and innovation on a foundation of in-person collaboration. For most roles, our employees work three or more days in our offices, where they have the opportunity to collaborate in-person, adding richness to our culture and knitting us closer together.

What you’ll bring:

  • 10+ years of experience and expertise as an owner of AWS policies at a company with tens of millions of dollars in annual spend.

  • Software development background such that you can hold a conversation with an engineer about their challenges and not miss a beat.

  • Proven ability to have a calm, steady hand when facing extremely complex, organization-wide problems that you’re asked to solve.

  • A track record of designing and implementing highly scalable, cost-effective, and secure, architectures.

  • Excellent communication skills such that you can hold a conversation with executives searching for details without losing sight of what’s important.
